Sex Addiction

Is some sexual behaviour an addiction that we continue despite negative consequences? Or do we simplify and stigmatise certain sexual behaviour by calling it addiction? Sex addiction is as difficult to define as it is for any of us to admit.

But if you have lost your job for watching porn at work, you shouldn’t be worrying about definitions. The negative consequences of sex addiction to your life are clear. Other consequences impact in slower time. Pornography addiction can interfere with your sex life or your relationship in subtle and not so subtle ways. Pornography is now more arousing and more available than ever before, but it is a narrow experience compared to the interplay of bodies and pleasures in real sex with other people.

If you are worried that some of your sexual behaviour is compulsive, problematic, or not in line with your beliefs and values, then you should talk it through with a sex therapist. Whether we define it as addiction, compulsion, or out of control behaviour, is less important than seeking help.

Working with Me

I don’t judge the sex addictions men bring. I help them to understand their addictions and what perpetuates them. I coach them to exercise greater control, make better choices, and drop what for them is problematic or unwanted.

Sex addiction happens when our desires get stuck and go underground. Exploring, accepting and redefining those desires can lead to greater pleasure and fulfilment. Sharing those desires with partners offers the possibility to bring greater depth to our intimate relationships.

I provide an initial assessment at a reduced rate. This enables clients to make up their minds

whether I am the right therapist for them, and for me to assess whether I can help or whether I should refer elsewhere.
